SCLEROTHERAPY

At St. Johns Vein Center, sclerotherapy vein treatments come in 3 forms:

Ultrasound, Liquid, and Foam – Visual sclerotherapy refers to injection of surface veins that are visible to the naked eye. Some veins that need to be treated are below the surface of the skin and cannot be injected safely without the aid of ultrasound imaging assistance.  The majority of sclerotherapy techniques use a liquid formulation unless the vein is unresponsive in which case they would use the foam alternative. READ MORE >>>

ENDOVENOUS ABLATION

Endovenous Ablation is an advanced treatment (used mostly for larger varicose veins) that harnesses heat energy to shut down the vein. The heat can be produced through either a radio frequency or with laser technology. The goal of the procedure is to tighten and shrink the vein to the point that it is no longer viewable through the skin. Although the valves are still not able to function, the procedure gets rid of the vein swelling and the pain/discomfort that commonly goes along with it. Endovenous Ablation is used more and more today in place of an older technique called vein stripping. The reason for its rise in popularity is its high success rate for a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure. READ MORE >>>

AMBULATORY PHLEBECTOMY

Is the removal of large unsightly varicose veins at the surface of the skin. The area surrounding the varicose vein clusters is flooded with anesthetic fluid. A needle is then used to make a puncture next to the varicose vein and a small hook is inserted for removal of the diseased vein. The punctures typically leave very minimal scarring. READ MORE >>>

PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE (PAD)

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) also known as peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is when hardening of the arteries (or atherosclerosis) causes the buildup of fatty deposits in the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients to all of the tissues of the body. As the plaque builds, blood flow to the limbs is reduced and may cause complete blockages of arteries. In early stages, PAD may cause pain and numbness in the feet and legs, as well as difficulty walking. In its most severe form, PAD can cause non-healing painful foot ulcers and infections which, if left untreated, could require amputation. Patients with PAD are three times more likely to die of a heart attack or stroke than those without PAD. READ MORE >>>

PELVIC CONGESTION SYNDROME

f you’re a woman who’s been experiencing pelvic pain for several months and a Pap smear has ruled out the possibility of cancer, you could be experiencing a very common condition called chronic pelvic congestion. In this condition, tiny varicose veins develop inside the pelvis, often near the ovaries. Just as those pesky varicose veins in your legs can cause pain and discomfort, when veins in the pelvis begin to malfunction, usually due to age, weight gain, or pregnancy, they can also cause sensations of aching and pain. CHRONIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY (CVI)

Known as CVI, chronic venous insufficiency, Jacksonville’s Dr. James St. George explains, is a medical condition in which the veins are unable to pump enough oxygen-poor blood back to the heart. It’s cause by damaged blood valves and often occurs after deep vein thrombosis or phlebitis. While women make up the majority of CVI sufferers, it’s also common among men who work jobs that are hard on the legs. Utility pole linemen and paratroopers are examples.

VENASEAL™

The VenaSeal™ closure system is the first and only treatment approved for use in the U.S. that uses an advanced medical adhesive to safely and effectively close the diseased vein segment. Tumescent anesthesia is not required. Unlike other varicose vein treatments, there is rapid return to normal activities. READ MORE >>>
