Background Information about Ponte Vedra:
Even as other seaside communities began to develop along the coast, the Ponte Vedra Beach area was only sparsely populated until the early 20th century. In 1914, a private commercial firm discovered a way to recover minerals from beach sands, and a community known as Mineral City grew up around the mining operations there.
Locally Ponte Vedra is known as an upper income tourist resort area and is nationally well known for its association with golfing. TPC (Tournament Players Club) Sawgrass offers two championship golf courses that are open to the public, and is home to the PGA Tour, and The Players Championship. Ponte Vedra has it’s own division of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce.
