WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A VEIN SCREENING

If you have unsightly spider veins or varicose veins, you should consider a free vein screening at the St. Johns Vein Center. An ultrasound vein screening will evaluate your legs to determine the severity of your vein condition. If your screening requires immediate medical attention, we will help you schedule an appointment with the appropriate doctor. Surface veins that do not require medical treatment can be treated with sclerotherapy or compression stockings.

A screening will consist of:

• A brief survey about medications, medical history, etc. that could increase the risk of vein disease.

• Simple ultrasound scan to measure vein function and identify any vein blockages.

• A brief examination for signs of venous insufficiency and varicose or spider veins

Varicose veins appear when the valves in the vein are weakened or damaged. This causes the blood to pool in the vein, which results in a bulging appearance.

What Are The Symptoms Of Varicose Veins?

You may benefit from a vein screening if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.

These can include:

• Aching pain

• Swelling

• Throbbing

• Cramps

• Heavy legs

• Skin discoloration

• Itching of skin of lower legs or over-obvious varicose or spider veins

• Restless Legs

What Causes Varicose Veins?

Genetics is the number one identifying risk factor for varicose veins; however, several other factors can increase the likelihood that you may develop them:

  • Age
  • Pregnancy
  • Hormones
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
